The Chamber is always keen to support local projects that affect the community or the businesses within it. We do this in two ways:
Financial Support: The Chamber does not have significant financial resources, but when we have a surplus (and remember that we are a not-for-profit organisation) we are happy to help out by making donations to worthy causes. For example, we fund the Fowey lights, because we feel they make a difference to the ‘feel’ of the town at Christmas and at other times of the year; we also make donations to local projects such as the community centre at the old Bowling Club, we purchased a defibrillator located on Town Quay and we give donations to other local charities.
Collective Support: When there is a local issue that needs addressing, the collective voice and support of the Chamber can be more effective than that of an individual. So we are happy to get involved. We do this either by supporting other groups/projects with our “voice”, or by sponsoring an initiative directly (particularly where the issue under consideration has a direct impact on our members). We rely totally on volunteers to get things done, so we cannot do everything – but when something needs doing, we encourage our members to get involved.
If you have any ideas or projects that the Chamber might be interested in supporting, please let us know. You can get in touch via our contact page.
